Design and display

The Apple Watch series has pretty much the same design since its inception in 2015, with the most notable change being the display redesign with the launch of the Apple Watch Series 4. That was three years ago, and you can expect the ‌Apple Watch Series 7‌ will feature an even bigger design change.

The new Apple Watch Series 7 is expected to be available in 41mm and 45mm size options, an increase from 40mm and 44mm. The Series 7 display is the largest yet in an Apple Watch, 20% larger than the Series 6. It also has thinner bezels. It is also said that there is a new layering technique that will bring the watch display closer to the front cover, with updated screen technology.

The 45mm ‌Apple Watch Series 7‌ model, which will be the largest to date, will have a body size that measures 1.9 inches diagonally, up from 1.78 inches. It will have a resolution of 396 x 484, up from 368 x 448. With fewer bezels and more display, the viewing experience would be better. It is also said that the screen will be 70% brighter than the previous generation watch. Apple also claimed that it was the most durable smartwatch ever made.

Health features

The Apple Watch Series 7 has an abundance of health features. Some of the main health features include:

  • Measure the level of oxygen in the blood
  • ECG
  • Sleep tracking
  • Outdoor cycling
  • Fitness tracking
  • Fitness +

Despite having an abundance of health features, the new Watch Series 7 doesn’t appear to have anything new to offer in this industry. Almost all of the Watch Series 7 health features can also be found in Watch Series 6.

Health function like oxygen in the blood will help you understand how well your body is absorbing oxygen and how much oxygen is being delivered to your body. This can be an interesting feature for people with asthma, heart disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Likewise, you can also take an ECG anytime and anywhere you want. Apple Watch Series 7 is capable of generating an ECG image similar to that of a single lead EKG machine. The ECG app can also indicate if your heartbeat is showing any sign of atrial fibrillation or sinus rhythm.

Apart from that, there are dozens of training modes and the watch can track all of your movements. The watch also automatically detects when you start pedaling and also reminds the user to start a workout. The fall detection mode has also been optimized for cycling and other training. There is also a voice feedback function on the watch that announces training steps such as speed, distance, etc.

Processor and battery life

Photo: Apple.com

The Apple Watch Series 7 runs on the watchOS 8.0 operating system and is powered by an S7 SiP chipset. It’s said to be 20% faster than the S5 chip in last year’s Apple Watch SE. The internal storage of the new Apple Watch Series 7 is 32 GB.

There isn’t much improvement in the battery life of the new watch. A full charge can last up to 18 hours of battery life. However, charging can be done faster in this model. Up to 80% of the charge can be done in just 45 minutes with the USB-C cord provided in the box.

Plus, eight minutes of charging can provide eight hours of sleep tracking.

Other features of the Apple Watch Series 7 are:

  • Large advanced display
  • Charges up to 33% faster
  • Five all new aluminum colors
  • Redesigned buttons
  • Apple Watch first – a new qwerty keyboard
  • Crack resistance, front crystal 50% thicker
  • Water resistance up to 50 meters
  • Dust resistance
  • Training tracking
  • Activity rings: Activity sharing and competition
  • Music, podcast and audiobooks

Apple has not announced the official price of the Apple Watch Series 7 and the watch is expected to be released by the fall of this year.

The Apple Watch has a well-deserved reputation for its health tracking capabilities, with Apple considering additional features for future smartwatches. But the Apple Watch might not be the only product from Apple that has a future for monitoring your health.

Future iPhones could play a role in tracking health conditions and possibly even spotting issues before they become apparent. At least that’s what you need to remember from a Wall Street Journal Report which indicates that the company is working on iPhone features that would help detect conditions such as depression and cognitive decline.

Huawei may soon launch a new smartwatch capable of accurately measuring blood pressure – beating Apple in the fist. Let’s go digital spotted a recently registered trademark document for a new device called the Huawei Watch D, which will include a “blood pressure monitor” and “blood pressure monitors.”

Some smartwatches, such as the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2, already offer some form of blood pressure monitoring that uses the same optical sensor used to track your heart rate, but it’s quite limited. An LED shines on your wrist, the sensor detects changes in the light reflected from your skin, and an algorithm uses this data to estimate changes in your blood pressure.

The Realme sub-brand has launched two smart wearable devices in the Indian market. DIZO is the brand launched as part of Realme’s TechLife ecosystem where it debuted in the smart clothing market in August of this year with its first smartwatch. DIZO Watch 2 and Watch Pro are the latest additions to the lineup and both watches share several specifications with each other.

The brand revealed key specifications for the two wearables on the Flipkart e-commerce platform ahead of the official launch. The Pro variant is the premium variant and the brand has focused on keeping the price affordable so that it can compete with the Honor Watch ES, Redmi Watch, Amazfit Bip U Pro, Huawei Band 6, etc.

Both smartwatches offer a square screen of 1.69 “on the Watch 2 and a little larger of 1.75” on the Pro variant. Realme boasts of offering the largest display panel on a smartwatch in this segment. The design language chosen by Realme here has a metal construction with a button on the side. There are over 100 watch faces for users to choose from on the DIZO Watch 2 and Watch Pro.

Both devices are water resistant up to 5 meters, while the Watch Pro is also IP68 certified for dust resistance. Moving on to sensors, Watch 2 and Watch Pro come equipped with blood oxygen monitoring, heart rate sensor, water reminder, sleep tracking, and more. The Watch Pro will offer a total of 90 sport modes, while the Watch 2 will offer up to 15. The Pro will also not require you to carry a smartphone for outdoor activities, all thanks to the presence of a dual satellite GPS.

Some other features that improve the overall functionality are music and camera controls, access to notifications, weather, etc. The battery capacity on DIZO Watch 2 is 260mAh and users will get a larger capacity of 390mAh on Watch Pro. These smartwatches will support Bluetooth 5.0 and are fully compatible with smartphones running on or above Android 5.0 and iOS 11.

Of the two, DIZO Watch 2 will be available in Golden Pink, Classic Black, Ivory White and Silver Gray options, while the Watch Pro will be available in Space Blue and Black color options. The former will be available for 2,999 and the latter will be available for 4,999. As an introductory offer, Watch 2 and Watch Pro will be available at 1,999 and 4,499. The first sale will begin via Flipkart on September 22.

While Apple continues to lead the way on the smartwatch front, Samsung has made good progress in its own offerings.

The latest are the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch 4 Classic, which offer a lot of useful features, with a few drawbacks.

DESIGN

The first thing you can say about the Watch 4 Classic when you take it out of the box and put it on is that it looks like a watch.

It has a round face, with a rotating physical bezel (only on the Classic – the other has a digital bezel) and a few push buttons on the right side.

There are two sizes available in the Watch 4 – 44m and 40mm – and in the Classic, a 46mm version and the 42mm that we tried.

The Classic is made of stainless steel, but it doesn’t weigh too much and is comfortable to wear.

Available in black and silver, the case is quite compact, so it doesn’t look too big.

Obviously, the 44mm and 46mm versions will be a bit larger in appearance and weight.

The version we tried came with a silicone buckle strap, but like most smartwatches there is a range of interchangeable straps available.

The screen is a permanent color Super AMOLED display.

Coated with Corning Gorilla Glass DX, it is strong but at the same time sufficiently sensitive to the touch.

The device is IP68 rated, so you don’t have to worry about dust and can take it up to 5 meters deep underwater.

PERFORMANCE

The power and speed of the Samsung Watch 4 Classic was no problem.

It is driven by one of Samsung’s Exynos W920 Dual Core 1.18 GHz processors, coupled with 1.5 GB of RAM for a smooth and fast user experience.

You can run multiple apps simultaneously and you won’t notice any significant lag.

The watch is loaded with 16GB of internal storage, which is a pretty respectable amount to carry music and apps with you.

A new feature on the watch is the operating system.

For this device, Samsung ditched its own Tizen and adopted Google’s Wear OS 3.

Above that is a skin developed by Samsung, One UI Watch 3.

If you’ve used Samsung and Google devices before, this will all sound pretty familiar and work fine.

Navigation is fairly straightforward, applications and features are accessible, and controls easy to learn.

The beauty of using the Google operating system is that it gives you access to a wider range of apps through the Play Store.

Battery life is good – up to two days depending on how you use it.

If you use it for a lot of tracking, you’ll probably want to top it up every day.

This is done with the wireless charger in the box, but since it’s more or less standard now, there’s no power supply included, so you’ll need to find a suitable one to plug in the cable.

CHARACTERISTICS

The watch has many of the usual features you would expect from this type of wearable, and a few other tricks up its sleeve.

Like most of its competitors, the Watch 4 Classic makes perfect sense for fitness tracking.

There’s the now standard step and calorie counters and built-in GPS to track your routes.

It is quite efficient at automatically detecting when you have started a workout and over 90 exercises are supported.

There are also many health monitoring features.

In addition to the heart rate monitor, the BioActive sensor measures the ECG in real time.

You can also check your blood pressure, but you will need to connect it to a Samsung smartphone to do so.

Blood oxygen levels can also be monitored via the watch.

The latest feature is a body composition measurement that claims to be able to tell you body fat percentage and skeletal muscle mass.

They all work great as far as we can tell, but as manufacturers continue to add more and more of these health monitoring features, you start to wonder what the value is.

Sleep tracking is also available, if you want to keep tabs on your zzzs.

There is a good range of watch faces, both analog and digital. You can also add AR emojis for a little fun.

CONCLUSION

Samsung has done a credible job with the Watch 4 Classic.

It has the distinct look of a real watch, but with plenty of health and fitness tracking features inside.

The user interface is user-friendly and the hardware and battery work very well.

A big downside for many is that it won’t work with an iPhone and in some cases you will need a Samsung device to operate features like blood pressure monitoring.

In truth, while it has a lot of endearing qualities, there aren’t any new playoff features to make it a must-have.

Perhaps this is just a feature of how well Samsung watches are already developed.

So if you’re looking for a really solid, reasonably priced (€ 379 for 42mm and € 409 for 46mm), handy, Android / Samsung compatible watch, check it out.

But if you’re looking to be impressed, maybe look elsewhere or wait for the next release.

It looks like a mysterious new Huawei health smartwatch could be heading to Europe.

From eagle-eyed tech observers to LetsGoDigital have seen a new listing from European regulators for the Huawei Watch D.

And more intriguingly, the list describes the Huawei Watch D as “a medical analysis; heart rate monitoring apparatus; blood pressure measuring apparatus; blood pressure monitors. ”

There is no further information, but it looks like the Huawei Watch D could bring some serious health tech to European shores.

Whether or not Huawei has the clearances from European health regulators to carry out these measurements remains to be seen – but it’s clear that this is something it is working on in China.

As we reported, Huawei has obtained permission from the Guangdong Provincial Food and Drug Administration to approve Huawei’s “ECG Blood Pressure Recorder”.

But in this report, Huawei was still looking for testers. This gives the impression that there is a long way to go before European authorization. And just in case you were wondering, we would say there was no chance of FDA approval, given Huawei’s embargo in the United States.

Blood pressure monitoring is sort of a holy grail in wearable devices, and the only mainstream smartwatch player to bring it to the market is Samsung. This solution must also be regularly validated with an armband, so it is not yet a really smart technology.

It looks like Huawei is on to something – but we’re not excited until it gets past regulators. It could be a long wait.

Huawei Watch 3 update

Huawei has released an update for its Huawei Watch 3 smartwatch, adding a host of improvements to its flagship smartwatch.

The update for Harmony OS 2 – HARMONYOS 2.0.0.188 – is currently rolling out in China, and we expect it to be released worldwide afterwards.

This means that users will now be able to reply to SMS messages directly from the wrist, offering more control.

The company also added an automatic handwashing detection feature, which listens for running water and starts a timer to promote better hygiene.

And there are also more music formats added, and improvements to wake-up motion to wake up when you’re not using an always-on display.

Best all-round smartwatch for kids: Apple Watch SE

Price:$ 329.99

You knew it was going to be on the list, so it’s probably not hard to determine which watch took the top spot. The Apple Watch SE GPS plus cellular with Family Setup definitely takes the cake of the smartwatch. It has all the features you can imagine, and with the family setup, parents can check their child’s location, set personalized activity goals, and set school hours when watch functionality is limited.

This Apple Watch has a walkie talkie function, which I thought was really annoying, but I actually loved it. With the push of a button, we could talk across the yard without having to worry about making a call. Is it time for dinner? Talkie Walkie. Need to walk the dog? Talkie Walkie. Do you just want to let out a quick “I love you”? Talkie Walkie. It’s super practical.

The setup was simple and straightforward, the battery life is impressive, and the watch is sleek and has a very low profile. I have a caveat, though: if you’re not an iPhone user, take it easy. We were sent two watches and an Apple iPhone to facilitate testing, and I’ve always been an Android user. I walked in with an open mind, ready to love everything from watches (which I did!) And the phone (which I didn’t.). We’ve only tested four days, which doesn’t seem like enough time to really get used to a whole new way of doing things on the phone, so we’re going to give it another shot because honestly these watches are amazing.

Technical specifications: There are two versions of Apple Watch SE, one with GPS only (which allows messaging and calls when paired with a nearby phone) and one with GPS and cellular LTE, which works independently through Verizon, AT&T services. and T-Mobile / Sprint. It is waterproof up to 50 meters and has a capacity of 32G. The battery lasts 18 hours of use.
